Not only is OOP a critical skill in the workforce, but at UT, the class is taught by one of the best lecturers in the department, Professor Downing, and thus definitely was and is worth taking. The class is meant to be more educational than difficult, and a lot of Professor Downing’s techniques, such as cold calling, are reinforcements of that.

How well do you think the course conveyed the intended material?

Professor Downing is a great lecturer, and so he always conveys the content well. In addition, I liked how lectures were supplemented by weekly article readings, which reinforced the S.O.L.I.D. principles.

How did you feel about two-stage quizzes and tests?

I thought two-stage quizzes and tests helped me…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, my partner and I started working on Life. We were actually able to finish the entire project over a few days and pass all the Hackerranks! The only thing remaining is for us to wrap up some documentation, and we’re done.

What’s in your way?

Thankfully, since we got everything done, nothing’s in our way. Outside of OOP, the only thing in my way is the assignments, projects, and exams I have in other classes, but other than that, I’m good to go.

What will you do next week?

Next week, for this class, I plan to start studying for Exam 2. I didn’t do as well…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I worked on Darwin. I did my work for my other classes as well, and I also practiced Leetcode for two coding challenges I received, one that I completed and one that is yet to be completed.

What’s in your way?

As of now, there is nothing that’s really in my way, both inside and outside of class. My work for my extracurriculars is starting to die down, so right now it’s just classes and recruiting for me.

What will you do next week?

I’m not entirely sure when the next exam is. If it’s next week, I plan to spend next week studying for it. If…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, for OOP, I didn’t do much. I mainly tried to find a partner for the Darwin project in our usual breakout rooms, but no one was available to partner up. In addition to this, I have a pretty messy schedule at this point, so I’m probably just going to forgo a partner and do this project myself. I kind of drove myself into a mess last time I did a project on my own, since I didn’t start on time, but I think I’ll be OK this time.

What’s in your way?

For this class, the only thing in my way…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, for this class, I spend a day or two studying for the exam, took the exam, and then hammered out a significant amount of the allocator project with my partner. We’re still blocked on an issue that we’re both really confused about, but we’re making steady progress, and I have no doubt we’ll finish well in time. Other than that, I’ve just been trying to stay afloat through all the work I have to do.

What’s in your way?

There’s not much in my way, other than the issue we’re blocked on that I talked about above. Other than that, it’s…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, for OOP, I just read over the project guidelines and got started on it with my partner. We were able to get through reading input, and we’ve started taking a look at the heap implementation that we have to fill out. We’re putting this on hiatus until the exam next week is done, though.

What’s in your way?

There’s not much in my way for this class. The exams tend to be pretty mysterious for a bit, but once you take an exam, it becomes pretty clear how to study. …

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I came back to Austin. It’s been really nice seeing my roommates again and catching up with them. As for this class, I finished the Voting project. I still haven’t caught up with the lectures I missed, though, since I was swamped with packing, flying out, and unpacking. This was still a good week for me, though, since the first half of my week was really productive.

What’s in your way?

Nothing for OOP, but in general, I really need to catch up on all my work. I feel like I’m always playing catch up — it’s pretty exhausting, but as…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I didn’t really do anything for CS371p oops. I was pretty bogged down with other stuff, as per usual I guess, and I had to prep for a midterm and some work for another class instead. I plan on grinding out the project tomorrow and finishing it up.

What’s in your way?

There’s not much in my way. I didn’t decide to get a partner for this first project, for various reasons, like I was pretty busy and preferred to work on my own time, but I will definitely be getting a partner for the next few projects. …

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I pretty much just did work. I did, however, book my plane ticket back to Austin, so I’m pretty excited about that. As for this specific class, I began working on the Voting project. It’s a good thing I didn’t make too much progress, because Friday’s quiz showed me that I didn’t understand the input as well as I thought I did, and that would’ve been a nightmare to fix.

What’s in your way?

The biggest thing in my way for this class is the language C++ itself. It’s a pretty annoying language, in my opinion, and it would’ve been much…

What did you do this past week?

This past week, for this class, I worked on optimizing Collatz. I was able to pass the first test on Hackerrank, but ran into multiple errors for the second two. I’m not too stressed about figuring out the optimizations, though, since I still have mine from when I took SWE last semester.

What’s in your way?

The only thing in my way in my lack of time — I have to start recruiting, and I need to finish another difficult project for another class, so I’ll have to prioritize well in order to ensure I’ll have enough time to not only optimize Collatz, but…
