What did you do this past week?

This past week, my partner and I started working on Life. We were actually able to finish the entire project over a few days and pass all the Hackerranks! The only thing remaining is for us to wrap up some documentation, and we’re done.

What’s in your way?

Thankfully, since we got everything done, nothing’s in our way. Outside of OOP, the only thing in my way is the assignments, projects, and exams I have in other classes, but other than that, I’m good to go.

What will you do next week?

Next week, for this class, I plan to start studying for Exam 2. I didn’t do as well on Exam 1 as I hoped I would’ve, so I’m planning on starting studying much earlier for Exam 2. I’m going to go over the class notes, making sure that the key takeaways for each week really stick with me, and then do the hackerranks.

If you read it, what did you think of What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

Similar to the last paper Professor Downing had us read on sexual harassment, I thought this paper was pretty horrifying. Some of the stories on the paper were so ridiculous I almost couldn’t believe they were real. I truly hope the situation for women in the CS workplace improves as time goes on.

What was your experience of inheritance?

I enjoyed learning about inheritance in C++, as it’s a crucial concept to understand. I do with C++ inheritance was more similar to Java’s, since Java’s inheritance concepts were more intuitive for me and made more sense, but I think C++’s approach has its pros as well.

What made you happy this week?

This week, I was happy to fly back home from Austin and see my family, and some friends here that I haven’t in a while. I’m looking forward to catching up with the rest of them in the coming weeks.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to clean your room. I find the state of your room to be an extension of your mind, and cleaning up my room always helps me get back to thinking clearly.
